さて、今回紹介している「Opertor」を歌っているのはマンハッタントランスファー。

マンハッタントランスファーは、有名なアドリブフレーズに歌詞をつけて歌っている曲が沢山ありますが、かっこいいですね。

これは、ボーカリーズと言うそうです。

ちなみに、ジャズのアドリブをダバダバなど歌詞をつけずに歌うのはスキャットと言います。

マンハッタントランスファーには、本格的にボーカリーズに取り組んだ「ボーカリーズ」というタイトルのアルバムを作っているので、一度全曲聞いてみたいものです。

楽器をやっていると誰かと演奏したくなりますね。

セッションなんかでアドリブをかっこよく演奏できたらいいな・・とみんな憧れますが、アドリブはなかなか難しい。

私のおばあちゃんとか・・ジャズに興味のない人は、誰かのアドリブ聞いても、ただ音階を吹いてるでけじゃない?とか、めちゃくちゃに指動かしてるだけじゃない?なんて思ってる人も居るみたいですが、

いやいや、とんでもない・・アドリブ難しいんですよ。(^^;

決してめちゃくちゃに指動かしてるだけではなくて、

ずっと一生懸命考えながら演奏しています。

いろんな行この事がなくなって、できなくなったことも沢山ありましたが、

ジャズボーカル 「Summertime」を歌ってみよう

サマータイムは、ジョージ・ガーシュインが書き下ろしたオペラ「ポーギーとベス」のアリアです。

当時はまだミュージカルというジャンルがなく、ミュージカルの先駆と言われています。

サマータイムは一幕冒頭で歌われる子守歌です。

数々のミュージシャンにより、ボーカルやインストでカバーされていますが、

今日はこの曲を歌ってみましょう。

こちらは一番の歌詞です。

この曲はバラードで、ゆったりと流れるように歌うと良い感じです。

文字で表すとこんな感じでしょうか。

歌いだしで２拍かけてゆっくりと息を吸い込み、２小節を流れるように

ゆっくり歌います。

Su や　Ti　など単語の始まりの音は強く発音してください。

逆に語尾の音は力を抜いて、次の言葉の頭に付けるようにすると、

英語がかっこ良く聞こえます。

また、強く発音するごとに首を上げたりすると上手く歌えません。

首はひとつの単語ごとに動かしたりしないように注意してください。

嵐の夜、雷に怯えてマリア先生の部屋に逃げ込んで来た子どもたちに、

「あなたの好きのものを思い出して、元気になりましょう」と励ます歌です。

サウンドオブミュージックの嵐は夏の嵐のようでしたが、

歌に込められた「私の好きなもの」は、クリスマスを連想させるものが多いです。

そのため、「My Favorite Things」はクリスマスソングとして歌われることが多いようです。

オスカー・ハマースタイン2世 とリチャード・ロジャースの曲ですが、

このロジャース&ハマースタイン　コンビは、数々の有名なミュージカル作品を手掛けました。

「王様と私」「南太平洋」「オクラホマ」「回転木馬」などです。

さて、このミュージカルソング「My Favorite Things」は、

ジャズのスタンダード・ナンバーとしても有名です。

なんとしても有名なのは、ジョン・コルトレーンが吹くソプラノサックスの演奏です。

コルトレーンはこの頃、モダンジャズからフリージャズに至る過程にありました。

このコルトレーンののびのびした演奏は、当時としてはかなり先進的な内容です。

そもそもテナーサックス奏者だったコルトレーンがソプラノサックスを吹き始めたのには諸説あるようで・・

タクシーに置き忘れられていたソプラノサックスを持って来てしまった・・とか、

マイルス・デイヴィスが、自分のバンドから抜けようとしていたコルトレーンを引き留めるためにプレゼントしたとか・・

ジャズ雑学辞典に載っている記事ですが、真実はもはや分からないそうです。
